(By Chris K.Amadi)-Governor Ezenwo Wike of Rivers State has been honoured with Power Of Sports Award in Brussels, Belgium by the International Sports Press Association, AIPS.
The award, which was given to Governor Wike on Wednesday was one of the key events at the 81st congress of AIPS, said to be the largest gathering of professional sports journalists across the world, and it was in recognition of Wike’s contributions to the development of Sports in Africa.
Worthy of note among the governor’s contributions included the decision to establish a world class sports academy in Rivers State in collaboration with Real Madrid FC of Spain and the hosting of African Wrestling Championship in Port Harcourt recently.
Wike, who also delivered a paper at the event was accompanied by his wife, Justice Suzzette Nyesom Wike and other sports enthusiast from Rivers State.
This award, coming just few days after the governor was similarly honoured with Zik Leadership Prize in Good Governance, among other chains of awards in recognition of the uncommon transformation of Rivers State by the Wike administration in three years, has placed the governor, who has since been nicknamed Mr. Project, ahead of his contemporaries.
