(By Iheanyi Ezinwo, Publisher)-In the cacophony of voices over the 2019 governorship election in Rivers State, especially the recent endorsement of Tonye Cole by the Rotimi Amaechi led All Progressives Congress as the preferred candidate to fly their party’s governorship flag in the state, prominent leaders from the reverine part of the state have thrown their weight behind the re-election of the Rivers State governor, Barr. Ezenwo Wike and have gone ahead to urge Rivers Professionals and all who live and do business in the state to do the same.

Speaking when Rivers Professionals paid a solidarity visit on the governor on Wednesday, Mr Enemi Alabo George, lawmaker representing Asari-Toru State constituency 2 said Governor Wike has made a difference in the close to four years of his administration by upgrading infrastructure and human resources, encouraged the participation of professionals in governance and promoted ease of doing business through land and tax reforms, including stoppage of multiple taxation in the state.
These reforms and improved security in the state, according to Hon. George, who also doubles as the Convener of Rivers Professionals for Wike, has led to the proliferation of small and medium scale businesses in the state.

He said: “You were elected by Rivers people and you have proved to be a good governor. Professionals have resolved that they want to be part of the process and to add value,” just as he assured that the professionals are ever ready to make their contributions to ensure that the governor continues to succeed in the state.

Also speaking, Rivers State Deputy Governor and prominent daughter of the Kalabari kingdom, Dr (Mrs) Ipalibo Harry Banigo described governor Wike as the only performing governor in Nigeria. She further said that PDP remains the foremost party in Nigeria with a constitution that allows women and youth participation in governance, urging all well meaning Rivers people to subscribe to the NEW Rivers Vision being championed by the governor.

Also speaking, a prominent son Andoni, Reverine Ijaw in Rivers State, Barr. Rufus Godwins, who is also the Head of Service of Rivers State, said the governor has put the state on the fast lane of development, in spite of distractions from the opposition, arguing argued that Wike remains the choice of the vast majority of Rivers people in 2019.

Impressed by the inclusive administration of the governor in giving all sections of the state, including non indigenes a sense of belonging in appointments and government projects, the Rivers Professionals, led by Hon. Enemi Alabo George formally endorsed the governor for a second term in office.

In his response, Governor Ezenwo Wike urged professionals to be involved in politics and desist from putting their destinies in the hands of hooligans.

He said:”Professionals cannot give their destiny to those who don’t know anything. Professionals must show interest in politics to churn out quality policies.

“Don’t be afraid. You have the tools to make contributions for the development of the society. Don’t hand over Nigeria to hooligans “.

Governor Wike further explained that his administration is taking steps to employ 7000 professionals into the State Civil Service, 10,000 teachers and 4,000 non academic staff into the State Education Sector, but regretted that the efforts of the state is not being complemented by the APC led Federal Government, who according to him, have unfairly neglected the airport and ports that would have helped to create more jobs in the state.

At the solidarity visit, the governor was presented with a Communiqué endorsing him for a second term and a condolence letter over the demise of Hon. Chinwe Aguma, Rivers State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice
