(By Chris K. Amadi) – As Governor Ezenwo Nyesom Wike of Rivers state continues to harvest several categories of awards from several organisations at home and abroad, Rivers people, in their different shades and numbers have also loudly responded by reconfirming their 2015 commitment in Governor Wike, to actualise his constitutional right of going for a second tenure.
This was the atmosphere yesterday when the people of Orashi region, following in quick progression with the people of Andoni of the Obollo ethnic nation, who a couple of weeks ago trunged the seat of power in Rivers State, also known as the Brick House, to plead with Governor Wike to show himself for a second tenure .
In the case of the people of Orashi region, particularly ONELGA, it was a matter of Wike having no choice than to accept the clamour by the women calling on him to contest the 2019 gubernatorial election.
Speaking on behalf of the women, a university don and legal practitioner, Dr. (Mrs.) Grace Akaloku said: ‘’ We are here numbering over 37,000 women from the oil producing Orashi region, comprising people from Omoku,Ndoni, Egbema and Egi components of the group to earnestly , most sincerely and respectfully invite Your Excellency, and insist that you make yourself available to take advantage of your constitutional right to contest for second tenure in 2019.
“This is against the background that the people of the state are satisfied that you have performed creditably well to merit a second tenure, just as every good messenger is sent twice”, the statement read in part.
Speaking on the sidelines of the ceremony that had women covering all available spaces in Government House, Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters and Strategy, Chief Emeh Glory Emeh thanked the people of Orashi region for the enviable show of love to the governor of the state, who had severally described himself as one of them from the Oroshi region.
“What you are seeing here today is a tip of the iceberg. This is one Local Government Area, not even all, because the Ekpeyes have earlier endorsed the governor. So the people you see here today are from Orashi kingdom, the home of Bro.Felix Obuah, the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state.
“I have said it several times and let me say it for the umpteenth time that in our state, some of us have been in and out of government for a while and so are in a position to know when a government is performing.
“Governor Wike has removed all the indices of hatred, broken the barriers of ethnic and religious separatism and cemented the bond of fraternal coexistence in Rivers State.
“Rivers people are happy with him and indeed trust him: And it does not matter what any body does or says. Certainly there is no alternative to Wike in 2019”, Barr. Emeh emphasized.
Earlier, dancing round with the women, Hon. Felix Obuah described the women as honest and dedicated party loyalists who have remained steadfast with Governor Wike since 2015 and will continue as we get into 2019 election.
In his response, Governor Wike, overwhelmed with the presence of the women expressed joy that they could defy the early morning down pour to visit him in Government House.
He said the Orashi people have always been with him through thick and thin, stressing that they are his first call even before any other Local Government Area.
He promised them the support of the support of the Rivers State Government under his watch.
