2023: Governor Masari  Supports  Power Shift To South, Urges Politicians To Subordinate Selfish Ambitions  To National Interest

As political parties prepare for their primaries ahead of the 2023 general elections in Nigeria,  the Governor of Katsina State, Aminu Bello Masari,  has reiterated his stand in support of  power shift to the southern part of the country in order to deepen the nation’s democracy. He also  called on politicians and other stakeholders in the Nigerian project to subordinate their personal ambitions to the overriding interests of Nigeria.

CityNews reports  Governor Masari of Katsina State  of making the call for the upteenth time in favour of power shift in 2023 while responding to questions from journalists on the way forward.

“Let me make my position very clear. This constitution is made for us, not us made for the constitution. Yes, constitution does not say we must shift power, but if you shift have you violated any part of the constitution?”

“I still believe that, from my personal opinion as Aminu Bello Masari, until such a time when we have stable polity, I think rotation or shifting power from time to time will help consolidate our confederation. I support that and I still maintain my stand and I have the constitutional right to make such comment”, Masari stated.

Recall that the position of Governor Bello Masari of President Muhammadu Buhari’s home state of Katsina, and many other  prominent members of the ruling All Progressives Congress have been speaking in support of  power rotation to the south in 2023. This position also aligns with the public declaration of southern governors last year that the next president of Nigeria should come from the southern part of the country.
