Agip Pipeline Fire Sets Ahoada – West Community On Fire


Ogoda, an agrarian community in the Ahoada -West Local Government Area of Rivers State has been engulfed by fire from pipeline belonging to the Nigerian Oil Company.


The pipeline, which passes through the community and connecting a nearby manifold enroute Brass. according to community sources, has been on fire for about two weeks, a development that has put the immediate community and neighbouring communities on edge while the blaze lasted.


A member of the community, Mr. Okpara, who spoke with newsmen on Sunday via telephone, regreted agelong neglect of the community by companies operating in the area and called on the officials of the Nigerian Oil Company to come and see for themselves what is happening and put out the fire.


He also called on the Federal and Rivers State Governments, as well as the Ahoada- West Local Government to come to the aid of the people of Ogoda, stressing that the blazing fire has become a big threat to the lives of the people and their environment.


Efforts to reach Nigerian Oil Company for comments were unsuccessful at press time.
