(By Iheanyi Ezinwo & Chris K. Amadi) – The successful conclusion of wards, local government and elective state congresses of o the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers State, resulting in the emergence of Ambassador Desmond Akawor and his team have been described as a commendable feat by a former special adviser to Governor Ezenwo Wike on Political Matters and Strategy, Barr. Emeh Glory Emeh.
Speaking with newsmen on the sidelines of the elective congress of the PDP that took place at the Obi Wali International Conference Centre in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Chief Emeh Glory Emeh lauded the electoral committee and party faithful for being on the same page while the exercise lasted, describing the Ambassador Desmond Akawor’s team as the best of the century in the Rivers PDP.
He attributed the sense of unity among party faithful to the prevailing shared vision to sustain the gains recorded by the party in Rivers state, a drive, which, according to the political strategist, explains why the whole exercise was rancor free.
“There was no single report of violence or court injunction any where, from the beginning to the end of the congresses. All leaders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party across the 23 local government areas of Rivers state conducted their affairs maturely, demonstrating that the PDP in Rivers state remains one big family and speaking with one voice”, he further explained.
Chief Emeh was full of gratitude to Governor Ezenwo Wike for providing an enabling environment for all stakeholders to freely participate in the process leading to the emergence of the new party’s executive council led by Ambassador Desmond Akawor.
The Emohua born politician, who hinted that PDP in Rivers state will be in safe hands under Ambassador Desmond Akawor’s watch, also lauded the outgoing executive led by Bro. Felix Obuah, for giving a good account of themselves and making the PDP the party to beat in Rivers state,
The former chief of staff, Rivers state Government House, praised members of the party for their steadfastness which has resulted in Rivers PDP being the first to conclude her congresses in Nigeria, urged them to continue to support the governor and the incoming leadership of the party in order to consolidate on the gains recorded in Rivers state in the last six years.
He advised the new executive led by Ambassador Desmond Akawor to remain focused and build on the gains of its predecessor, including reaching out to former members and following them up until they return to the party.
“I have worked with Ambassador Desmond Akawor for some time and can attest to his capacity. Akawor’s loyalty is infectious. You can never find him wanting. He is sincerely respectful and endowed with humility and service,” the former commissioner of transport and aviation during the administration of former Governor Peter Odili emphasized.
