(By Chioma Peters) – Twenty four hours after over 3, 700 members of the All progressives Congress, APC, In Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State burnt their brooms and sought for refuge under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, umbrella, APC / Ikwerre Youth Movement, IYM members from Emohua, Ikwerre, Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt Local Government Areas, the home ethnic group of Nigeria’s Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi have also jumped out of the APC ship and embraced PDP.
Overjoyed on Monday at the Rumueme Civic centre that they have finally taken the bold step of leaving the APC for the PDP, the vibrant youths danced to the rhythm of the famous and captivating tune in Rivers State:
Wike de come oo
Wike de come oo
You no go gree
You no gree
You go gree ooo
In their separate speeches, the decampees described the Rivers APC as a house divided against itself, and so cannot stand anymore.
They regretted that the APC leaders in the state were selfish, just as they lauded Governor Ezenwo Wike as a man who keeps to his words and expressed their commitment to work for him in 2019.
Receiving the decampeess, the President General of Grassroots Democratic Initiative, GDI,Hon. Bright Amaewhule, together with the Secretary General, Samuel Wanosike expressed joy that the decampeess who were foundation members of GDI and PDP have come back home and assured them of equal rights in the fold .
In his own remarks, the immediate past Mayor of Port Harcourt, Hon. Charles Orlu commended the returnees for their decision and assured them of protection.
In his goodwill message , Special Adviser to the Governor Wike on Political Matters and Strategy, Chief Emeh Glory Emeh expressed joy that the PDP family is increasing every other day.
The former chief of staff, Government House, recalled that he was in Eleme to receive decampeess the previous day, and that a similar ceremony of defection of APC members to PDP will be holding in Khana on Thursday.
The Special Adviser described Governor Wike as a broad minded man, with milk of human kindness, even as he disclosed that there is enough room in Wike’s political house to accommodate all present and future defectors.
The Special Adviser further explained that Governor Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has shown to Rivers people that he is a man of the people, and a leader that they can trust any day.
His words:
“I am happy to be in your midst to welcome you to our great party. I am actually expected to be in Etche now where our governor is inaugurating Odufo- Akpoko- Umuoye road project spanning five communities in Etche Local Government Area.
“I have to be here because of the importance the governor attaches to what is described in the Bible as the finding of the lost sheep: We were told that our Lord left 99 sheep to look for the missing one. That is why the governor has allowed me to come and receive you. I will join the governor at Etche as I leave here
“It may interest you to know that I was a leader in APC for one and half years ago. I can tell you for free that the party is no more existing in Rivers State. So your decision to jump out before the boat sinks is a wise one.
“I want to commend you for the bold step. Governor Wike is ever prepared to continue to receive all our people who have been deceived to go the wrong way of APC .
“For defectors from Obio/Akpor, it will be strange to leave your house to another where the roof is leaking”, the political strategist further observed.
Barr. Emeh Glory Emeh appreciated the leader of the decampeess, Chijioke Akanninwor, who is from Rumueme community, where the governor has just flagged off internal roads at Mgbuoshimini a couple of weeks ago.
The former commissioner of transport and aviation reminded him that while he was in APC he was not able to bring development to his community, asking was his your brother? The one who abandoned you or the one who is developing your community and the crowd roared, Wike!
He gave out is his telephone number to the decampees, requesting them to feel free to visit his office should they have need to do so.
