(By Iheanyi Ezinwo) -As the ruling All progressives Congress, APC, repositions ahead of the 2019 elections, proactive actions are being taken to put the government and party in a strong footing to retain power.
Among the obvious moves of the President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government was the appointment, Monday of Boss Mustapha, from Adamawa State as the new Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
He replaces suspended Babachir Lawal, who was sacked, Monday along with the Director-General, National Intelligence Agency, Ayo Oke over contract scandals and the unclaimed millions of dollars discovered in a residential apartment in Ikoyi, Lagos respectively.
The suspension of the two top officials of government were consequent upon the acceptance by President Buhari of the recommendations of the panel headed by the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, which investigated allegations against the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Babachir Lawal, and the Director General, National Intelligence Agency, Ayo Oke.
Meanwhile, the appointment of Boss Mustapha, a lawyer and former Managing Director of the National inland waterways Authority, is being celebrated in his home state of Adamawa, where Atiku Abubakar, a presidential aspirant in the APC also hails from.
The excited Information Commissioner Mallam Saroh, said, Monday that the government and people of Adamawa State are pleased with the appointment of their son, Boss Mustapha as new Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
He said the people of Adamawa State were indebted to President Buhari for appointing another Adamawa son to retain the position of SGF.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s former Vice President Atiku Abubakar was absent at the very important caucus meeting of the APC, Monday in Abuja.
Reports say the APC presidential hopeful was out of the country, the reason for his absence at the meeting that was presided by President Muhammadu Buhari, and attended by the newly appointed SGF, Boss Mustapha.
