(By Iheanyi Ezinwo) – Barr. Emeh Glory Emeh has said that he was happy to celebrate yet another year among the living on Monday, 22 February, 2021.This is particularly so because of his experience, later part of last year, when he had health challenge that took him out of the country, courtesy of Governor Nyesom Wike; and he was therefore happy to celebrate in good health, with friends and well wishers in Port Harcourt.
Speaking with Notable Outcome at the poolside in his residence in Port Harcourt, in the midst of avalanche of calls and long line of visitors, the elated Chief Emeh Glory Emeh, former commissioner for transport and aviation in Rivers State Harcourt explained that his political career dated back to when Chief Sergeant Awuse contested for the Constituent Assembly in 1988, adding however, that he has since progressed to participating at various levels, ranging from installing candidates, to serving as commissioner and Chief of Staff, Rivers State Government House.
Commenting on the just concluded Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, primaries, the political strategist observed that a very high standard was maintained. “What constitutes standard include adherence to party constitution, policies and rules. The Ambassador Desmond Akawor- led state executive committee of the party met these preconditions.
” So, one can conclude without fear of contradiction that His Excellency, Ambassador Desmond Akawor – led executive committee and the committee from the national secretariat led by Senator Anyanwu lived up-to expectation”, he said.
On the non return of most council chairmen, he said:” I believe that the party under the leadership of Governor Wike, who, like father to all, had a water tight criteria for who comes back. This was broken into performance, zoning arrangement and cultural arrangement.
“I also believe that in taking the decision of not returning more than 70 percent, the party may have considered the idea of reaching out to more party faithful. This is the most instructive aspect of the criteria, as what is good for the goose is also good for the gander”, Glory Emeh added.
On the performance of the present administration of Governor Ezenwo Wike in Rivers State, the Emohua -born politician explained that, “having been in government or as is generally said, corridors of power for awhile, I am adequately prepared and sufficiently exposed to politics and governance to be able to appreciate when a leader has delivered in the mandate given to him by the people.
“There is no doubt that every leader will have a special trait and programme that can distinguish him or his government from another. Even though governance is a continuum, it will not be so difficult to identify each administration with a particular characteristics.
“The emphasis placed by one administration may be different from that of another but the bottom line is service to the people.
“Former Governor Peter Odili placed a lot of emphasis on energy as the basis for industrial development. His efforts gave him the nickname, the Golden Governor of Nigeria.Sir Celestine Omehia, for a short period was a man in a hurry to make his mark in the state;
former Governor Chibuike Amaechi, I could see where his emphasis lied, which is building of schools and health centres.
“Then entered Governor Nyesom Wike – young and energetic, desirous to write his name in gold – has placed reasonable emphasis on general infrastructural development and urban renewal.
“Worthy of mention is the numerous road networks and bridges.
I am therefore very proud to have, before this my most cherished birthday, worked with these democratically elected citizens, apart from Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi.Honestly, I did not know much about the administration of Amaechi because I was out of the country during the eight years of that administration.
“I want to therefore thank God for sparing my life last quarter of last year, and through this medium convey my appreciation to Governor Wike and his wife, who supported my medical trip., the Rt. Hon. Austin Opara and his wife, for their support., Oha Sergeant Awuse and wife, for being there for us., Senator Lee Maeba and wife, for their assistance., my dear wife, Dame Kate Glory Emeh., my children: Barr. Pride Glory Emeh., Engr. Hilton Glory Emeh and Dr. Stepney Glory Emeh for being by my side.
” I am also indebted to Patrick Orleans, Dr. Chris Harris and Dr. Christine Johnson, my medical team in the London clinic for their professionalism”, he noted.
On whether or not the PDP can recapture power at the national level in 2023, he said:
“The atmosphere is ripe for PDP to bounce back to power in Nigeria. The same atmosphere is also ripe for any other coalition of political parties to also wrestle power at the centre.
“I am impressed with the approach of Governor Wike in building bridges across the nation, and also of the view that the tempo should be sustained”, Chief Emeh summed.
