(By Iheanyi Ezinwo)-Hon. Azubuike Odum, member of the Rivers State House of Assembly between 1999 and 2003, has disclosed his intention to return to the legislative chambers in 2019.

Speaking with Ward Coordinators of Grass Roots Development Initiative, GDI, in his residence in Port Harcourt, on Friday, Chief Odum, who recently served as caretaker committee chairman of Emohua Local Government Council for two months, recalled that during his time at the Rivers State House of Assembly, he represented the people of Emohua well.

“As a member of the house, I never fought nor involved in any kind of crisis that could bring my constituency to ridicule. I did all that a legislator should do and went on constituency visits two or three times”, the Ndele-born politician explained.

Hon. Odum said the meeting was to inform the GDI Coordinators of his intention to run for the Emohua State Constituency at the Rivers State House of Assembly and to seek their support, hinting that, with their support he will succeed.

He lauded the GDI Coordinators for their support for Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State from the beginning and urged them to continue to do so, maintaining that he was proud to be associated with the group.

In his response, the GDI Coordinator in Emohua Local Government Area, Hon. Ikpechi Oriji, thanked the former lawmaker for the meeting, recalling that it was the first time an aspirant from the local government is seeking audience with GDI coordinators, to inform them of his intention to run for an office.

“Odum has opened the door of recognition for this body: GDI will ever remember this day; this is the respect that is due GDI”, Hon. Oriji said, just as he emphasized that there is no recognition or reward that is too much for GDI coordinators, who he said have made so much sacrifices in the course of duty, as committed foot soldiers in their respective wards.

Hon. Ikpechi Oriji further stated that the political pressure group cannot turn down the invitation of the former lawmaker, who, according to him, had come to GDI because he believes that they can be of help to him.

While hinting that GDI in Emohua Local Government Area is not closing its doors to other aspirants, the coordinator however assured Hon. Odum that when statements will be made over who will represent Emohua State Constituency at the Rivers State House of Assembly, that the voice of GDI will also be heard.

“Others will call us tomorrow and we will go but at the end of the day that which must be must be because it is God that gives power”, Ikpechi said while commending Governor Wike for his inclusive administration that has left no one behind in Rivers State.
