(By Iheanyi Ezinwo) -While some political opponents of Governor Ezenwo Nyesom Wike in Rivers State are bickering over the governor’s recent condolence visit to Benue State and his donation of 200 million Naira to assuage the pains of those who lost property and their loved ones numbering more than 70 following the barbaric attack of Fulani herdsmen, more chieftains of All Progressives Congress, APC, in the country are applauding Governor Wike for demonstrating leadership and maturity by identifying with the Government and people of Benue State at a very trying moment.
The latest commendation is from a security consultant and chieftain of APC in Lagos state, Senator Olu Kayode Opanubi. Speaking on the sidelines of a security summit in Abuja during the week, the senator was full of praises for the Rivers State Governor for showing exemplary leadership.
He said the action of the governor was in line with the spirit of politics without bitterness as preached by Alhaji Waziri and Aminu Kano whose politics had no borders.
” I was not actually surprised when I heard that Governor Wike of Rivers State paid condolence visit to the governor in Benue State. It is not the gift of money that attracted my fancy. I am particularly moved by the emotions displayed by His Excellency. I have not met Governor Wike one on one but I have followed him on the media so when I read of his action in Benue, I thought I should add my voice to those who appreciated his kind gesture to his brother Governor even when they do not belong to the same political party. The unusual display of love by Wike should to be emulated by leaders all over the world. I am proud of him” Senator Opanubi emphasised
Recall that, Governor Wike had earlier been commended by indigenes of Benue State in Diaspora, who, in their twitter handle thanked the governor for demonstrating that injury to one is injury to all, and lauded him for standing out as an epitome of politics without bitterness in Nigeria.
