(By Chris K. Amadi) -It is no longer news that Nigerians are fed up with President Muhammadu Buhari and his All Progressives Congress, APC, led government and have decided to effect the real change that will impact positively on the lives of the generality of the people of Nigeria.
The decision of Nigerians is against the background that both the economy and politics otherwise referred in international semantics as political economy of the nation called Nigeria is no longer finding space in the world discourse. Commentators including Dr. Olusegun Obasanjo have not hidden their disdain on the need for this change.
While Buhari and his APC are struggling in the web of confusion as to the way forward, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is consolidating in their quest to take over the realms of governance to takeover. In that entire imbroglio, one man stands tall in showing capacity to replace Buhari in 2019.
Speaking in Port Harcourt while on his nationwide consultation, front line aspirant for president of Federal Republic of Nigeria on the platform of the PDP and former multiple governor of Jigawa state.
Dr. Sule Lamido told Governor Ezenwo Wike of Rivers State that he was in the oil rich state to seek support of the governor and people of Rivers State for nomination as candidate of the party in the next national convention.
Alhaji Lamido recalled with nolstalgia the tortuous road PDP passed to the stage where it formed government and ran affairs of the country for 16 years.
He however regretted the loss of power in 2015 at the national level and attributed the misfortune of the party to some intrusion by external forces but thanked Wike for his steadfastness in ensuring that PDP remained intact even as he promised to re-position and return the PDP to power, and also come up with policies and programmes that will improve the fortunes of the country.
Responding, Governor Wike described Dr. Sule Lamido as an experienced technocrat and dependable politician, who has demonstrated capacity to champion the cause of the PDP and the entire country.
The governor however advised the presidential hopeful not to take anything fore granted but continue to consult widely, even as he stressed that the PDP will go for the best aspirant.
He said: “Nobody can ignore the role you played at the time PDPD was at cross roads. Most of our members ran away after riding to power through PDP.Be steadfast, we are proud of you”, while noting that the Jigawa former governor has learnt the ropes of leadership over time and a valuable material to the people of Nigeria.
