(By Chioma Peters)-The Rivers State Government has imposed restriction of movements in parts of Port Harcourt city on Saturday as part of measures to ensure a conducive atmosphere for the bye-election to elect a representative to fill the vacant Port Harcourt State Constituency 3 seat.which became vacant following the resignation of Hon. Victor Ihunwo, who has since been elected as the Chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government Council.
In a State Broadcast on Friday, Governor Nyesom Wike said:
“ Part of such measures include the restriction of vehicular movements in the entire length and breadth of Port Harcourt Constituency III as well as the closure of the following roads and routes from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, 18th August, 2018.
“From Agip junction (Rumueme) through Ikwerre road and adjoining streets to Olu Obasanjo road and adjoining streets to UTC junction and adjoining streets in Diobu areas of Port Harcourt Local Government Area”, according to the governor are affected, even as he advised all residents and visitors to comply with the restriction order because, according to him, “ the law enforcement agencies are under strict instructions to arrest and prosecute anyone caught violating this order”.
Governor Wike called on all eligible voters in the affected communities to come out and vote for the party and candidate of their choice, adding that, as “a prelude to the 2019 general elections, this election is equally important to the entire Rivers State”.
