Campaign For Yoruba Self Determination, Lawful: Travail Of Igboho Remains That Of Every Yoruba Person — Akintola, SAN

(By Chris K.Amadi) – Those who are attempting to demonize the arrested Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, have been advised against it because his clamour.for Yoruba self determination remained lawful and in line with the Geneva Convention of 1949.

The caution was issued by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Niyi Akintola, while speaking in a radio programme in Ibadan on Saturday. He maintained that no criminal charges have been preferred against the Yoruba campaigner in any court of law in Nigeria, adding that the travail of Igboho remains the travail of every Yoruba person.

The former governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State however criticized officials of the Department of State Service over the manner they stormed the residence of Igboho on July 1.
He argued that, by blocking the CCTV cameras, that the security operatives may not be able to sustain allegations of recovering guns from the campaigner’s house.

Responding to a question, Niyi Akintola, SAN, explained that Yoruba elites were working underground to help Igboho out of his present condition, stressing that Yoruba people would not abandon Igboho at this point.

On the amendment of the 1999 Constitution, the senior lawyer, who is lead constant to the National Assembly on Constitution Review, hinted that, devolution of power, including state police may be achieved at the end of the exercise because of popular demands accross the six geopolitical zones.

He was of the opinion that, at the end of the Constitution Review exercise, that the 68 exclusive powers of the president might be reduced to 24, and this decision, according to him, would have to be taken by the National Assembly while their duty as consultants was only advisory based on the memoranda collated accross the country.
