(By Iheanyi Ezinwo, Founder) – Saturday, November 23, was indeed a day of joy for the management and staff of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) Business School located at the high profile Abacha road axis in GRA Phase 3, Port Harcourt, when the institution organised her first graduation ceremony.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice Chancellor of University of Port Harcourt, Prof. Ndowa Lale, lauded the director of the Business school, Prof. Okechukwu Onuchukwu for his foresight and creativity in taking the school from where he met it to where it is today.
He further commended the current administration at the Business school for introducing innovative programmes and for also effecting infrastructural changes in order to give the school a more dignifying outlook.
Prof. Lale, who said he decided to come instead of being represented at the graduation ceremony in order to demonstrate his support to the administration, and promised to make whatever sacrifices that may be required to ensure the success of management of the Business school.
He commended lecturers in the institution for their commitment and as he advised the graduating students that the University of Port Harcourt brand is highly respected locally and globally and should therefore be protected, and that they cannot afford to do things the wrong way.
In their separate remarks, the Dean of Graduate School, Prof. Anthonia Okerengwo, and chairman of Governing Board of the Business School, Prof. B.F.Nwine, while lauding the director and his team for making a difference , noted that the school has become the preferred destination for students desiring world class training in business studies.
Earlier in his address, the Director of University of Port Harcourt Business School, Prof. Okechukwu Onuchukwu, thanked the vice chancellor and other dignitaries for honouring their invitation to the first graduation of the Business School that was established in 2011.
The professor of econometrics however hinted that, on his assumption of office as director at University of Port Harcourt Business School in February 2017, he was faced with the challenges of dilapidated buildings, faulty power infrastructure and that of internet access but that they have since surmounted them, introduced new programmes and are even planning to put up a new building in the premises in order to meet emergent accommodation needs.
Prof. Onuchukwu further explained that the University of Port Harcourt Business School has made progress in administration, introduction of new programmes, course content and delivery and is presently one of the foremost business schools in this part of the country.
While congratulating the students for successfully completing their programmes, the director urged them to become worthy ambassadors of the University of Port Harcourt Business School.
