The coast appears clear now for the rescheduling of the election of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Rivers State Council, which was aborted on Thursday, August 12, 2021 over issues of non display of delegates list.
While Stanley Job, who is seeking a second term and his supporters were set for election on that day, supporters of his opponent, John Bazia, had a contrary view. They had demanded for the list of delegates who have been cleared to vote, stressing that unless such a list that has been approved by the national body is displayed, that the election would not hold.
And because, the agitations turned violent, the police had to order for a suspension of the process before things got out of hand.
Meanwhile, with the electoral committee displaying the list of delegates at the Ernest Ikoli Press Centre ,along Moscow road in Port Harcourt, on Monday as approved by the national body, all parties in the election are now sure that no strangers would be participating in the election as alleged, and it is hoped that whoever is the choice of the majority will emerge as the next chairman of the Rivers State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.
