(By Silas Tamuno)-The worst fears of Godwin Obaseki, Governor of Edo State that he might be denied a return ticket to contest for the office of Governor of his state September 19, 2020 has become a reality following his disqualification to contest for the 22 June governorship primaries of his political party, the All Progressives Congress.
The governor was said to have been disqualified by the screening committee over alleged anti-party activities. Presenting the report of his committee to Adams Oshiomhole, national chairman of the APC at the national secretariat of the APC in Abuja on Friday, Jonathan Ayuba added that two other aspirants were also disqualified from the race while three were cleared to contest.
Recall that Governor Obaseki has been fighting the political battle of his life against his godfather and the national chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, and it does appear that the immediate past governor of Edo State has won round one.
Adams Oshiomhole has been opposed to the re-election bid of Obaseki, who is being accused of betrayal, and Pastor Osagie Ize- Iyamu, is said to be the preferred aspirant.
As tension rises in the political camp of Governor Godwin Obaseki, there are indications that he might still appeal for the intervention of President Muhammadu Buhari and others, and where all those fails, the option of defecting to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party might be the last resort in what promises to be a fight to finish for the soul of Edo state in September.
