A military coup has taken place in Burkina Faso on Friday, 30 September.

Reuters, reports that a group of officers led by  Captain Ibrahim Troare have promptly  taken over government from  the former  military ruler, Paul- Henri Damiba.

The new military ruler, Captain Ibrahim Troare,  in a broadcast on Friday evening have  reportedly   dissolved the government and suspended the constitution and transitional charter, hinging their intervention  on the failure of the ousted ruler to arrest the  worsening Islamist insurgency in Burkina Faso.

He also announced indefinite closure of borders,  as well as the suspension of   political and civil society activities.

Recall that, the Friday military revolt was the second similar military  intervention in eight months in Burkina Faso, after Damiba  ousted former President Roch Kabore in January for the same reason of festering insurgency.
