As the security situation deteriorates in parts of Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory that has almost been surrounded by gunmen who are operating in surrounding states where they go about abducting, killing and taking territories, two professors and four other residents at the Senior Staff Quarters of the University of Abuja have become the most recent casualties. They were abducted on Tuesday early morning about 1am.

Those reportedly taken away were Prof. Bassey Ubom, with his son and daughter; Prof. Obanza Malam, Sambo Mohammed and Dr. Tobit, and the report has since been confirmed by the spokesman of University of Abuja, Habib Yakoob.

The ugly incident, as reported in the University of Abuja Facebook, read:
“Suspected bandits attacked the staff quarters of the university in the early hours of today.

“Our safety officers, in conjunction with security personnel, mobilised to secure the quarters.

“We have report that four of our staff and their children were, nevertheless, abducted by the evil men.

“Efforts are being made to ensure their safe return. A sad day for us, indeed! ”
