GSS Emohua Old Students Honour Engr. Emeka Woke; Inaugurate New Executive Committee

It was a joyous reunion on Sunday, September 5, when old students of Government Secondary School Emohua, Rivers State, gathered at Ernest Ikoli street, Old GRA, Port Harcourt, the official residence of the Chief of Staff, Government House, Port Harcourt for the association’s monthly meeting which was hosted by the 1985 set.

At the meeting, the Chief of Staff was honoured with Distinguished Alumnus Award for excelling in his service to God and to humanity, and for his support to the association, while new executive committee memebers was elected and inaugurated. Responding to the award, the elated Chief of Staff said he was taken by surprise, as no one gave him a hint of what was in the offing, and pledged his continuous support for the body.

Also speaking, Prof. Chituru Orluwene, Provost at the Rivers State School of Medical Sciences, said the honnour bestowed on Engr. Emeka Woke was well deserved, adding that similar award awaits any member who distinguishes himself or herself in his or her chosen career.

Meanwhile, the election was an easy one as all those cleared were unopposed, and all but two of those who served in the last executive committee returned including Mr. Wachukwu Godday, as president. Other members of the new executive committee are Dr. Nyege Nnokam, Vice President; Nneogazinu Iwedi. General Secretary; Emmanuel Didi, Assistant Secretary; Lolo Jack, Treasurer; Okechukwu Enwukweri, Financial Secretary; Dr. Chituru Ogonu, Public Relations Officer; Ajuru Akin, Provost 1; George Amadi, Provost 2 while Mrs. joy Amadi returned as Welfare Officer.

Speaking after the inauguration of the new executive committee, the President, Godday Wachukwu, thanked members for their support during the first term and confidence in them to return. He prayed for more support in the second term, assuring that the second term would be better than the first.

A major hgh light of the occasion was the presence of one of the popular teachers of Government Secondary School Emohua in the 80’s , Uncle Frank. He reminisced on the past and thanked God that the students of yesterday are now top government officials and important members of the society, and promised to always come around anytime that he is invited.

Also in attendance at the meeting was the publisher of Notable Outcome, Mr.  Iheanyi Ezinwo, who is a first generation alumnus of Government Secondary School, Emohua.
