Insecurity In Nigeria: Legal Practitioner Challenges Federal Government To Double Efforts

(By Chris K. Amadi) _ The emergent country wide violations of human rights, combined with the regular attacks of bandits and other unknown gun men all over the country is gradually painting a picture of hopelessness accross Nigeria.
This observation was made by a legal practitioner, Barr. Emeh Glory Emeh, in a chat with newsmen in Port Harcourt.

Barr. Emeh, former special adviser to Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State on Political Matters and Strategy, was full of regrets that avoidable security situation in Nigeria has been allowed to deteriorate to alarming proportion.

The former Chief of Staff, Government House, Port Harcourt, during the administration of former Governor Celestine Omehia, further observed that “the failure of government institutions to protect life and property, as clearly stated in the Nigerian Constitution, has given rise to several regional security outfits – suggestive of the fact that the citizens are being allowed to protect themselves: a development which, by extension, means loss of confidence in those critical state institutions”.

Responding to a question as to whether Nigeria has come to a cross roads, the former commissioner for transport and aviation in the administration of Dr Peter Odili in Rivers State said:

“It is unfortunate that insurgency and banditry can last for over 20 years which suggests that those saddled with the responsibility of combating it can be described as nothing less than failure”.

Barr. Emeh, who is a political strategist and consultant in politics and governance however advised all concerned to strengthen the machinery for control, as well as in building of confidence in the existing institutions of government in the country.

“What is needed going forward are policies that will instill new spirit of times that will promote fresh commitment to the values of efficient performance of the security infrastructure in the country to accelerate the psychology of developmental growth among the citizens”, the political strategist and consultant in politics and governance emphasized.
