(By Chris K.Amadi)) – People who mean well for Rivers state and its people foresaw the advantages of the Neighbourhood Safety Watch and mobilized support for its establishment and eventual take off.

This was the view of the immediate past Special Adviser to Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State on political matters and Strategy, Barr. Emeh Glory Emeh, on the sideline of the Governor’s second term inauguration at Yakubu Gowon stadium, Elekahia, Port Harcourt, describing as unfortunate opposition to the initiative by some persons with parochial interests.

The former commissioner for transport and aviation emphasized that Neighbourhood Watch was a timely initiative that is not only in Rivers State but also in Lagos, Enugu, Abia, Anambra and Kebbi states, among others.

Chief Emeh recalled how the Kano state government also  shown   on Television the graduation of 3,500 Neighbourhood Security officials in that state, just as he noted that the Neighbourhood Watch initiative in Rivers State was well conceived, and a model in Nigeria.

He added that burden to nip in the bud the emergent security challenges in the state inspired the governor to go ahead with the programme, adding that the increasing number of kidnapping and other forms of crime in the state is a vindication of the move to establish the security outfit in Rivers state.

Chief Emeh Glory Emeh further stated that debate on the Neigbhourhood security outfit is no longer tolerable and therefore foreclosed, especially now that relevant officials have been recruited and trained , and ready for deployment to the different communities of the state.

Glory Emeh was full of commendation for Governor Wike for his foresight in conceiving the idea of the Neighbourhood Watch which is a reflection of the Governor’s passion and love for the people of the state.
He also commended the good people of Rivers State for their support for the Nyesom Wike administration in these four years.
