Ambassador Desmond Akawor,, PDP Chairman

(By Chris K. Amadi) –
Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers State, Ambassador Desmond Akawor, has falter claims that Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike hates Igbo people, insisting that those spreading the rumors are detractors.

Ambassador Desmond Akawor made the observation when members of the New Rivers Vision Youth and Students, led by the Director-General, Comrade Ihunwor Chimzim, Charles visited him on Monday, 2nd November, 2020.

The PDP State chairman, who described the allegation as false and misleading, said most friends of Governor Nyesom Wike, including the Commissioner for Special duties (Governor’s office), Emeka Ononwu, are Igbos, advising masterminds of the alleged protest to shelve it.

He maintained that no government worth its salt would allow any part of its territory to be forcefully annexed by any group of individuals in whatever guise.
“How can certain criminal elements come to an area and start behaving as if they are the owners of the land and hoisting flag. Do you know that hoisting flag in an area is like loosing your sovereignty, and you expect the Governor to fold his hands and do nothing “, Akawor queries.

He explained that the killing of six soldiers and policemen, including one who is Igbo, and whose wife had a six month old baby, and collecting their guns is the height of rascality and mindless brutality by POB.

“Now they are mobilising Igbos across the country to protest against Governor Nyesom Wike alleging that he hates Igbo people.

‘We cannot use such thing to play politics”, Ambassador Akawor said.

On the EndSars protest, he said that the youths who participated in the state conducted themselves peacefully until the protest was hijacked by hoodlums and miscreants of the IPOB who unleashed mayhem on Oyigbo which is also his own home town, and regretted the loss of innocent lives in the area during the incident.

The State PDP chairman lauded the group for standing behind Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, expressing optimism that their support for the governor has not been misplaced.

” Governor Nyesom Wike has done extremely well in terms of road construction, educational and health infrastructure, security among others.

He commended the group for the visit and their award, assuring that the party would continue to involve them in its programmes and activities.

Earlier, the Director General, New Rivers Vision Youth and Students, Comrade Ihunwo Chimzim Charles, said they visited to congratulate the new PDP leadership in the state, adding that the New Rivers Vision Youth and Students, has passed a vote of confidence on Governor Nyesom Wike for his exemplary and purposeful leadership.
