Knock Down Of Wike’s Motorcycle Outrider By Amaechi: Breach Of Protocol And Security —Emeh

(By Silas Ofori) -The Motorcycle Outrider of Governor Ezenwo Nyesom Wike of Rivers State was knocked down on Saturday by the vehicle of Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi at the Waja junction in Port Harcourt, a development that has been condemned and described as breach of protocol and security of the sitting governor.
This observation was made by a former Chief of Staff, Rivers State Government House, Chief Emeh Glory Emeh, who in a chat with newsmen in Port Harcourt on Monday had argued that the governor’s convoy is superior, and therefore takes precedence over any other person’s motorcade in the state, irrespective of how highly placed.
Chief Emeh, who was a former transport and aviation commissioner in Rivers State further maintained that, as the chief security officer, and the symbol of authority of the state, that the governor has the right of way when ever he is on the road, and that both tradition and the law demand that other road users give way for his passage.
The chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party recalled that similar privilege is also enjoyed by the President of the Federal Republic at the national level, and that in his own case, Nigeria’s air space is always closed for some time whenever he is billed to fly out or fly in, just as it is the tradition for roads along his land route to be blocked, all in a bid to avoid breach of his security.
Chief Emeh Glory Emeh, who is a legal practitioner also reasoned that, as a former governor who had enjoyed these privileges, that Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, currently Nigeria’s Minister of Transportation should have known better, and given due honour to Governor Wike, irrespective of their political differences, adding that the respect is not necessarily to the occupant but to the exalted office of Governor of Rivers State.
