Leopards Of Congo Play 1-1 Draw With Super Eagles Of Nigeria, As Foundation For Real Madrid Soccer Academy Laid In Rivers

(By Chris K. Amadi)-The Leopards FC of Democratic Republic of Congo on Monday played 1-1 draw with the Super Eagles FC of Nigeria at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The match, which was watched by a large crowd including Governor Ezenwo Wike of Rivers State, President of the Confederation of African Football, Mr. Ahmad Ahmad, Nigeria’s Sports and Youth Development Minister, Barrister Solomon Dalung, President of Nigeria Football Federation, Mr. Amaju Melvin Pinnick, officials of the Nigerian Football Federation and Rivers State Government, as well as representatives of Real Madrid Football Club lived up to its billing.
Nigeria’s first and only goal was scored in the fifth minute by Simeon Nwankwo, who is based in Italy while Ben Malanga scored the equalizing goal via a penalty for the Leopards, much later in the encounter that the Congolese gave a good account of themselves.
Meanwhile, the Man of the Match, Defender William Ekong went home with N1million cash and 10 bags of Big Bull rice for any charity home of his choice, courtesy TGI, who are partners with NFF. He was also given a brand-new Apache TRT 1600 model motorcycle and a brand-new Tricycle from NFF partner Simba Group, while Gernot Rohr, Coach of the Super Eagles smiled home with a brand-new Apache TRT 1600 model motorcycle.
The Nigerian team, which is Russia bound for the 2018 World Cup is in the final stages of planned friend lies and preparations before stepping into the main competition in June.
In a related development, the President of Confederation of African Football, Mr. Ahmad, earlier on Monday performed the foundation laying ceremony for the Real Madrid Football Academy at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt. He said the initiative would provide opportunities for the emergence of future soccer stars and also promote international football best practices in the continent of Africa.
The soccer academy is an initiative of the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, in collaboration with Real Madrid Football Club of Spain, and the governor believes that the academy would help in raising generations of international stars from the state and the entire country.
Present to witness the foundation laying ceremony were President of Nigerian Football Federation, Mr Amaju Pinnick, President of International Sports Press Association, Gianni Merlo, President, Inter- national Sports Press Association Africa, Mitchell Obi, officials of Real Madrid Football Club and other sports personalities and enthusiasts.
