(By Iheanyi Ezinwo & Silas Tamuno) -The People’s Democratic. Party, PDP, leadership in Rivers State has been commended for presenting professionals in different fields of endeavoru as their candidates in the April 17 local government elections.
The commendation was made by Barr. Emeh Glory Emeh, on the sidelines of the handover of flags to chairmanship candidates of the party in Port Harcourt on Saturday.
Barr. Emeh, who was former chief of staff, Rivers State Government House, observed that, but for the time when Dr. Peter Odili asked members of the State Excecutive Council who desired to participate in the third tier of government to indicate their intentions, that he had not seen where professionals are so encouraged to participate.
He thanked Governor Nyesom Wike for making it possible for this kind of Calibre of people to participate.
“If you look at the area of persons who are going to contest the local government elections on PDP platform, you will agree with me that it must have been the wish of God for Rivers people so that the third tier administration will have the level of people that are ready and adequately prepared and ready to support the administration in the state
“Take for instance, in Andoni, Evastus Awotu is a tested technocrats and former Secretary of Greater Port Harcourt. In Emohua, Chidi Llyod holds Ph.D in law, and was leader at the Rivers State House Assembly.
Responding to a question, the former commissioner for transport and aviation said: “the PDP is a well organised party.We may disagree but at the end of the day, issues are settled amicably because it is family matter.
“We also thank God for the kind of leadership we have in the state.because you have to have an organised leadership to be able to have such a peaceful outing.
” From day one, the governor has drummed into the ears of party supporters that a loss at one time is not the end of the world. Therefore, nobody should be disillusioned for any opportunity lost as there will always be another opportunity.
“Given the antecedents of the governor himself, moving from council chairman, to chief of staff, to become a minister and then to become a governor”, Emeh further explained, adding that there is hope for everybody if you are persistent; if you believe in yourself, and in God.
The immediate past adviser on Political Matters and Strategy to Governor Nyesom Wike attributed the peaceful atmosphere at the handover of flags to high quality leadership in the party.
He also congratulated all the PDP candidates for their anticipaed resounding victories come April 17, 2021, and the chairman of the party in the state, Ambassador Desmond Akawor, for being a very wonderful team player and for mobilising party faithful to the peaceful and successful event on Saturday.
