Muslim/Muslim Ticket: Not Issue But Ticket That Can Deliver, Says Analysts

(By Iheanyi Ezinwo) – As political parties in Nigeria have up to Friday this week to submit to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the names of their vice presidential candidates, Nigerians have spoken that what matters to them is not whether the ticket is Muslim/Muslim or any other combination but a leadership that is seen to be fair to all, and committed to fulfilling the legitimate expectations of the citizens.

Political analysts who spoke with Notable Outcome in Port Harcourt recalled how past leaders had religiously followed the mixed religious ticket but argued that it has not made any difference in terms of guaranteeing the protection.of lives and property, inclusive administration and in the improvement of the welfare of the citizens.

Reacting to the possible Muslim/Muslim ticket in the All Progressives Congress presidential ticket, the analysts said that the primary consideration of the party should be a winning combination, because, according to them, in an election, whatever strategy that can improve a party’s chances of victory must be given due consideration, and sometimes over and above other concerns which could be resolved through dialogue.

They further argued that any one who will vote for Bola Tinubu, for instance will vote for him, irrespective of the combination, and that those who.will.not..vote for.him will not.do so even if..he picks a Christian as his running mate.

The analysts therefore urged the candidates to..consider running mates.with.promise of winning bulk votes, because, according to them, that is what matters over and above any other consideration.
