(By Chioma Peter)-The performance of Nigerian athletes who featuring at the Winter Olympics for the first time in 2018 have been described as simply amazing.
Speaking with News Agency of Nigeria on telephone, Nigeria’s Chef de Mission to the 2018 Winter Olympics, Gbenga Elegbeleye, said he was impressed with the performance of Team Nigeria that made its debut in the Pyeongchang Games in South Korea.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Nigeria’s Bobsled and Skeleton teams participated in the Winter Olympics for the first time at the 2018 Pyeongchang Games in South Korea.
Elegbeleye, in a telephone interview with NAN said:

“Being among the 20 best in the world in bobsled and skeleton is quite amazing, considering how and when the girls started preparations for the Winter Olympic Games.
“The Nigerian girls did not only finish their four races, they recorded their personal bests in two of the races,’’ Elegbeleye said.
Nigeria was represented by Seun Adigun, Ngozi Onwumere and Akuoma Omeoga and they took the 20th position in the women’s category.
Meanwhile, the story was not a good one for Russia whose flag was absent at the closing ceremony because of the vote of the IOC to keep Russia’s ban for widespread drug cheating although 168 athletes who were adjudged clean were allowed to participate as neutrals.
Shockingly, two Russians reportedly tested positive at the just concluded event, but the government of Russia have denied any involvement in the scandals.
Another ugly development at the Winter Olympics was the arrest of David Duncan from Canada by the police in South Korea for car theft, and reports say his wife was also arrested in an offence many have described as inescapable.
