(By Iheanyi Ezinwo)-Tonye Cole, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State is driven by a strong passion to transform Rivers State, and not just by an agenda to grab power.
These were the views of Hon. Ogbonna Nwuke, spokesman of Tonye Cole Campaign Organization in an exchange with Notable Outcome in Port Harcourt, adding that the APC candidate’s interest in politics is in what to do with power for the benefit of a great majority of Rivers people.
According to the former member of Federal House of Representatives representing Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency, the focus of Tonye Cole in his consultations has been on important issues affecting the well being of Rivers people in a manner no other candidate is doing.
“ He is showing he has a clear agenda that would take Rivers people to new heights. He is not doing so by shouting or threatening thunder and brimstone. In all, you can see a man with a strong passion to transform our dear State when he talks.
“ You see a man who feels the pain that the people feel when he relates with them. These are distinguishing factors which explain why his message is resonating with the people; why people think he is doing things differently”, Hon. Nwuke explained..
Responding to a question, the APC chieftain said: “No two persons can behave exactly alike or address issues the same way. It is clear that people are likely to do things differently if they are to achieve results that are capable of transforming society.
“Cole is standing on the platform of the APC. He is currently spearheading the APC’s policies and programmes in the field, even as he gives it a personal touch or two in terms of what he would do or not do if he is elected into office. What you see, is a meeting point between Cole’s orientation as a person and APC’s attitude to power and governance.
“Cole has a different world view that sets him apart. He is reaching out to the people and talking to them. Since he arrived, he has been on the campaign trail, moving from ward to ward. He has covered the entire wards in the Rivers West. Recall that his ward consultation coincided with the period of the floods. Cole didn’t say he would address the problems facing the people if he gets elected. He simply addressed them, delivering relief materials when a sitting government could do nothing.
“He is presently in the Rivers South East touring wards and meeting people. Rivers people agree what they are seeing is different, and Cole is truly doing things differently. The chemistry between Cole and the people is difficult to explain. You are seeing mutual respect, empathy, compassion and style rolled into one. The people are warming up to it. They are experiencing it and liking it as Cole comes knocking on their door. They know someone who respects them has come. They know he means business and they are willing to support him.
“ He is concerned with what to do to attract investments, create jobs, enhance development and grow our common wealth. He understands the consequences that environmental degradation would have on the ecosystem and life itself”, Hon. Ogbonna Nwuke concluded.
