The Muslim/Muslim presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress being championed by Ahmed Bola Tinubu and Senator Kashim Shettima has been described as insensitive, and an adverse signal for Nigeria ahead of the 2023 elections.
This observation was made by Hon. OCJ Okocha, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, in a chat with Notable Outcome over the week end in Port Harcourt.
His words:
“The issues arising from the Muslim/Muslim ticket of the APC are quite controversial,and should be thoroughly examined by all Nigerians. While it is true that there are no religious qualifications stipulated in the Constitution and the Electoral Act, it is my very well considered opinion the the APC has, by its own choice in the matter, displayed an unpardonable level of insensitivity to the feelings and sentiments of Nigerians.
“Nigeria is a multi-religious country, and our political leaders should at all times ensure that they do not send out signals that may adversely affect the feelings and sensibilities of the people.
“May I also say that the Abiola/Kingibe parallel from 1993 is out rightly misplaced. In 1993, Nigeria was not as bad as it is now, and ethnic and religious conflicts were not as bad as they are at this time”, he summed
