As the war between the State of Israel and Hamas rages and countries of the world taking their stands for and against the warring parties, Israel has been urged to use proportionate force while acting in self defense.
This call was made by Hon. OCJ Okocha, Senior Advocate of Nigeria while commenting on the lessons of the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
He harped on the need for Israel to refraian from excessive use of force, as he made reference to the Arab and Palestinian youths who were using slings to hurl pebbles at the Israeli soldiers, who he said are backed up by the government of the United States of America.
Furthermore, the former National President of Nigeria Bar Association, said “Israel should never forget the holocaust perpetrated against the Jews by Hitler’s Nazi Germany during World War 2”, adding that “God’s justice is supreme! Israel should not be seen to be using disproportionate force in the war.
Okocha said: ” Israelis have a right to defend their nation, but they should use proportionate force in fighting the Arabs and the Palestinians”, even as he further observed that “National Governments, even the United Nations Organization, are not likely to help oppressed peoples”.
