Amadi) – Ogbakor Ikwerre Cultural Organization World Wide, under the leadership of Prof. Emenike Wami, has resolved to intervene in the differences between their two illustrious sons: Rt.Hon.Chibuike Amaechi, former governor of Rivers State and immediate past minister of transportation, and Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State with a view to reconciling both of them in the overriding interest of Ikwerre ethnic nationality.
This decision was taken at the 229th Convention of Ogbakor Ikwerre which took place at Omagwa town in the Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State on Sunday, 26 June, 2022.
The resolution followed observations by Senator Andrew Uchendu, Eze Gideon Omodu, Prof. Otonti Nduka, Eze Paul Wonodi and others that Rt.Hon.Chibuike Amaechi and Governor Nyesom Wike have made the Ikwerre ethnic nationality proud by mustering resources and the courage to challenge for the presidential ticket of their parties, and coming out strongly in the second position in the two leading parties in Nigeria: the All Progressives Congress and Peoples Democratic Party respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, the President General of Ogbakor Ikwerre, Prof. Emenike Wami, echoed the views of other elders and past leaders of the organization that, without prejudice to past efforts, that the fathers cannot fold their hands while the feud between their two illustrious sons festered. He noted that the uncommon courage of their sons has stamped the Ikwerre ethnic nationality in the political map and consciousness of Nigerians, stressing that the cultural organization would leave no stone unturned to see that the lingering differences between the two politicians are resolved.
While describing the feats achieved by the two illustrious sons of Ikwerre as important milestones that have changed the narratives in the political history of Ikwerre, Ogbakor urged the leading politicians in Ikwerre land not to relent but learn from the experiences of those who persisted and eventually fulfilled their aspirations.
The Omagwa declaration also mandated the President General of Ogbakor to address a World Press Conference, to thank God for the political mileage that Ikwerre has gained in Nigeria, and to also celebrate her two sons whose bold moves had brought Ikwerre out of political obscurity to national prominence.
Earlier in his address, President General of Ogbakor Ikwerre, Prof. Emenike Wami, had lauded the people of
Omagwa, including the Ikwerre Council Chairman, Hon.Samuel Nwanosike, for their contributions to the advancement of the cultural organisation, and for hosting the 229th Convention.
He expressed satisfaction with the improved security, restoration of economic activities and substantial reduction of illegal bunkering in Ikwerre communities, even as he demanded for outright stoppage of environmental pollution in Ikwerre land. Prof.Wami also informed the Convention of the constitution of standing committees to close the gaps in the socio-economic political and economic life of Ikwerre people and encouraged all who would be approached for one contribution or the other in their areas of expertise to cooperate with the committees.
While thanking the council chairmen in the Ikwerre speaking areas of Rivers State for responding to the counsel of Ogbakor to pay attention to the economic empowerment of their constituents, the President General hinted that, necessary documents have been obtained to enable Ikwerre join in the ongoing suit at a Federal High Court in Abuja on the referendum case being championed by some ethnic groups in Nigeria.
The leader of Ogbakor Ikwerre further advised Ikwerre people to be cautious in the way and manner they sell their ancestral lands, just as he disclosed that time had come to end the controversy of Ikwerre origin, adding that, “Our Research and Documentation Committee has been directed to pay special attention to this”.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman of Community Development Committee, CDC, at Omagwa, Stephen Nwachukwu, had thanked the Cultural Organization for choosing to hold her 229th Convention in the town.He also Lauded Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State for backing their son, Engr.Samuel Nwanosike to serve as Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Council.
The CDC chairman however demanded for the connection of the town, that has donated lands for the International Airport and other Federal Agencies, to the International Airport electricity line through the Special Protection Unit of the Nigeria Police located in Omagwa.
Stephen Nwachukwu also reminded Governor Wike of his promise to fix their internal roads, even as he pleaded for the upgrade of their chieftaincy stool to First Class.
The 229th Convention of Ogbakor Ikwerre was attended by traditional rulers, past leaders of Ogbakor Ikwerre and members of the cultural organization from the four Ikwerre speaking local government areas of Port Harcourt, Obio/Akpor, Emohua and Ikwerre.
