One Meter, Multiple Bills: PHED Taking Extortion To Next Level; Threatening Public Peace

(By Chris K. Amadi) – Until recently, the complaints man y customers have against Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company was that estimated bill, a dubious practice of giving imaginary bills to customers that has no bearing with consumption. And because this practice at a time was limited to people with meters, PHED was emboldened to sustain the exploitation.

Not long ago, they proceeded to declaring all meters as expired to enable them give estimated bills to customers who are not using prepaid meters. This exploitation has been going on, and because the resistance has been weak, PHED has upped their game by now duplicating the bill from one meter, including those with only one phase, and charging all those who are connected to the one meter to pay as if they have different meters.

This exploitative innovation is making youths in parts of Port Harcourt to be restive, and unless PHED is called to order, their new move may ignite the kind of crisis that they cannot handle.

Concerned citizens who spoke with Notable Outcome wants PHED to retrace their steps, and learn to consult with their customers before introducing an innovation that will negatively affect the consumers.
