Rivers people in action

(By Iheanyi Ezinwo)-The superlative performance of the current administration in three years has proved detractors wrong and demonstrated that Governor Ezenwo Wike is in a hurry to develop Rivers state and transform the state’s developmental landscape and aesthetics for the benefit of our people as well as investors and tourists.
This was the view of former Chief of Staff, Rivers State Government House, Chief Emeh Glory Emeh, while fielding questions from journalists on the sidelines of the official flag off ceremony for local government election campaigns at the Yakubu Gowon stadium in Port Harcourt on Thursday, May 17, while observing that Governor Wike has shown capacity and capability in delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Rivers State.
Chief Emeh, who is currently the Special Adviser to the governor on Political Matters and Strategy, said the mammoth crowd in the 20,000 capacity stadium is an eloquent test that people of Rivers State have confirmed Governor Wike as a leader that have continued to give them confidence that their decision to vote for him again in 2019 is not misplaced.
On whether or not there are other political parties in Rivers State that can challenge the popularity of the ruling PDP in Rivers State, the legal practitioner declared: “You don’t need to ask a blind man if there is salt and pepper in a source because he or she will certainly have the taste of whether or not such ingredient is part of the meal. You can see for yourself that our people have made up their minds to follow Governor Wike and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
“Having been in government for some time now, I am in a position to tell that this state is a PDP state. The crowd you are seeing here today have been here since 7am.It takes a happy team to endure the sun or the rain or a combination of the two, and wait for hours for the commencement of the programme.
“You may hear the usual propaganda of the opposition, particularly the All Progressives Congress, APC, but like our people say, seeing is believing. I want to challenge the APC or any other political party or a combination of all political parties in this state to attempt to assemble this kind of intimidating crowd to match the popularity of the PDP as a party and Governor Wike as a leader”.
On Governor Wike’s challenge to the candidates to answer their father’s names rather than rely on the achievements of his administration, Barr. Emeh said, “the governor was just being who he is, that is, a practical politician who understands the tenets of the game that, to succeed, you need to work hard. It is obvious that the crop of candidates who emerged in the party primaries are those who have been groomed, tested and accepted by the electorates in their various local government areas and wards”, adding that the candidates have done their homework and prepared to face the electorates and return victorious.
The political strategist further explained that Governor Wike was only re-emphasizing the need for hard work and his earlier stand that, he will not tolerate any form of rigging in the forthcoming election. His words: “You can see without any doubt that only few leaders can be as transparent as Wike has shown and this is a very important example for the leaders of APC and indeed the Independent National Electoral Commission to emulate and ensure that 2019 election is devoid of malpractice in any form.
“Rivers people have endured the injustice of the present administration of Buhari and have resolved to resist any attempt to mismanage the forthcoming elections in the country”, the Special Adviser emphasized while aligning himself with the opinion earlier expressed by Rivers Patriots and Rivers Elders Consultative Council that the state is solidly behind Governor Wike and will rise against any person or group of persons who attempts to malign him or denigrate the laudable programmes of his administration in the state
Chief Emeh, who welcomed and congratulated the 138 former councillorship candidates of the APC in the 2015 local government election for the wisdom to defect to PDP at the rally, also commended PDP faithful for turning out enmasse and composing themselves all through the programme.
He was also full of praise for Prince Uche Secondus – led National Working Committee of the PDP for their solidarity, and reassured them that victory in Rivers State is a fait accompli and as lawyers would say, rez ipsa loquitur, meaning the thing speaks for itself.
