(By Iheanyi Ezinwo)-The Special Adviser to Governor of Rivers State, Barr. Emeh Glory Emeh has admonished the All Progressives Congress, APC, to be patriotic and constructive in their utterances, stressing that it is no longer fashionable to criticise for the sake of it, particularly when the ruling party in the state have demonstrated capacity, commitment and patriotism in the delivery of democratic dividends.
Chief Emeh, who spoke on the sidelines of the commissioning of Captain Amangala, Bishop Fubara and Tourist Beach streets in the old Port Harcourt township over the weekend by Chief James Onanefe Ibori, former governor of Delta State, maintained that, “we must discourage the pervading culture of baseless criticism adopted by the APC for self glorification and cheap popularity”.
The three intercepting roads, which were said to be in deplorable and impassable state before Governor Wike came to the rescue of the residence of the area, used to be the glory of Port Harcourt but was abandoned by the past administration of Rt. Hon.Chibuike Amaechi.
Fielding questions from journalists, Chief Emeh said: “Politics is supposed to be a pleasant routine venture for common good but it is regrettable that it has become a source of sickening stress for the citizens because of the wickedness and jealousy of those who found themselves in opposition, particularly in Rivers State.
“Instead of looking forward to election with joy and excitement, the citizens are apprehensive particularly against the background of the utterances and negative disposition of those who think that, rather than campaign for peoples support, resort to the use of violence and federal might to achieve what they cannot obtain from the electorates.
“When the complexion of election conducted by a civilian regime assumes the semblance of that conducted by military junta, it is obvious the nation needs help and craves for a credible election that is free, fair, transparent and peaceful”, he emphasized.
Warning that development will continue to elude Nigeria until there is commitment, unity and appreciation of one another as one indivisible creation of God, Chief Emeh Glory Emeh further stated: “Elections which are merely assumed to be peaceful through the instrumentality of force and intimidation are neither democratic nor credible.
“We appreciate the fact that democracy accommodates all manner of credulity and absurdity, it is therefore the responsibility of whoever is in leadership to ensure credible imperative for democratic growth of our nation”.
The former commissioner for transport and aviation during the administration of Dr. Peter Odili commended Governor Wike for his commitment to transforming Rivers State to an enviable status comparable to what obtains in the advanced democracies of the world.
The legal practitioner believes Governor Wike is in a hurry to put his signature on the history of Rivers State whenever it will be told.
“Let me tell you, you are a journalist in this city: by your vantage position you are better placed to see and educate those who feign ignorance of what Governor Wike has done and is doing.
“One thing is clear, if it is an examination that is based on performance, Wike will score more than 100 percent and Rivers people are happy with him and will vote for him”, Barr. Emeh, the political strategist emphasized.
He called on Rivers people to continue to reciprocate with love, the deliberate efforts of Governor Wike in ensuring provision of critical infrastructure and protection of integrity of the government and people of Rivers State.
