(By Iheanyi Ezinwo) – Over the years, Rivers people, especially media and public relations practitioners, have seen commissioners for Information, of different brands: the good, the bad and vindictive, and the ugly .
The office of commissioner for Information and Communications has so much to do with government relations – with the public. And to succeed in that office, the holder needs more than rhetoric: He must have character, and a good understanding of media relations.
He must also be willing to make friends for the government, and go on to evolve informed ways and means of keeping them. What this means is that, the job of information commissioner is unsuitable for unfriendly and unpopular characters, who fall outside the zone of indifference (vis-à-vis public expectation).
Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike of Rivers State must however be commended for the guided choice of Pastor Paulinus Nsirim, as a member of the state executive council, and more importantly, for assigning him, Tuesday, to the Ministry of Information and Communications.
One is not unaware that, many there are, who parade as pastors these days – when in truth, they are wolves in sheep’s clothing, and enemies of the kingdom of God; but Paulinus Nsirim, is a pastor with a difference.
He believes in God, who makes all things beautiful in its time, and his trust in God has paid off in 2019, after his match on this same path was truncated in 2007, after the mandatory screening at the Rivers state House of Assembly in 2007.
He is a pastor with fear of God, and his works are consistent with his Christian profession: A pastor with excellent public relations and good report, and who can be trusted to deliver on the new assignment.
Besides, he is well schooled in public relations, currently, serving chairman of the Rivers State chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Rivers State until his appointment as commissioner.
Pastor Nsirim’s pedigree speaks of good home upbringing, abundance of social skills, and integrity. He has been in media practice since after his graduation from the University of Port Harcourt.
Three time chief press secretary to governors of Rivers State; director, and until his recent elevation, permanent secretary in the Rivers State Ministry of Information and Communications. Paulinus Nsirim, is one man whose feelings are disciplined, and whose passions are restrained.
The Ozuoba – born distinguished civil servant inspires true and worthy motives; and also instills profound religious feelings.
Media practitioners in Rivers state are over joyed that one of their own – as a matter of fact – a former chairman of Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, in Rivers State, has been given an opportunity to serve the state at this level.
And to pledge his continued loyalty, and strengthen that bond of friendship, Pastor Nsirim headed to the NUJ secretariat, Mosco road, Port Harcourt, for a reception immediately after his inauguration on Monday.
Media and public relations practitioners in Rivers State are happy that, a suitable person, with track record of performance, has been given an opportunity to provide the right physical and psychological environment for stakeholders to relate with the Rivers state government.
They know him; and they trust him to make a big difference in that office. The reason is because, he is a team player, and will work with the relevant stakeholders to advance the cause of development in Rivers State.
Paulinus Nsirim’s service history shows a focused man, who is driven by passion to serve. Until this change of level, Monday, his life had been meaningful because he lived it in service to humanity.
Finding himself on this familiar, though higher path, one is convinced that, he will brighten every where he goes with thoughtfulness and humility, knowing that the promotion, though by the good will of the governor, was made possible by the grace of God.
It was Owen Feltham, who said that, “Promises may get friends, but it is performance that keeps them”. Pastor Nsirim, is in the right company. As God would have it, Governor Wike, the promise keeping governor of Rivers state has found an ally in the immediate past permanent secretary in the ministry of Information and Communications.
We have no doubts that, the new commissioner will run without breaking the ranks, and this mindset has made his success in the assignment, a fait accompli.
The Management and Staff of Notable Outcome, the distinct and worth reading global news medium, heartily congratulate Pastor Paulinus Nsirim on his appointment and inauguration as Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, and wish him greater success than he had ever seen in the course of his service to God and to humanity.
