(By Iheanyi Ezinwo, Publisher)-The people of Rivers State have been commended for their massive turnout for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, registration and revalidation of membership programme which is ongoing in the 23 local government areas of the state. The commendation was given by the Special Adviser to the governor on Political Matters and Strategy, Barr. Emeh Glory Emeh, while receiving a delegation of a group known as PDP Total Grassroot Movement in his office in Port Harcourt.
The special adviser expressed joy that the PDP in the state is waxing strong by the day, stressing that, “this is not unconnected with infrastructural developmental strides of Governor Nyesom Wike in the past close to four years in office which has made the party more popular and attractive”.
The political strategist said: “We are happy that the new membership registration is recording impressive result as both old and new members are competing for space in the membership register of the party.
“We are also not unmindful of some of the reports that the cards are not available in some areas to meet the high demand of those willing and available to register as members of the party.
“We are very grateful to Governor Nyesom Wike for making the PDP attractive and a beautiful bride for both new and old politicians to have as a platform for actualizing their aspirations. We will also like to use this opportunity to commend Sir. Felix Obuah, chairman of PDP and other leaders of the party in the state for ensuring a hitch free exercise.
“We urge those involved in the registration in the 319 wards of the state to take the exercise very seriously and always ensure that they are available to capture all those who turn out to be register and on no account should anybody to be denied of registration to part of Governor Wike’s fast moving PDP train.
“In this regard, we want to emphasize the governor’s earlier admonition that nobody should attempt to hoard the card as a measure of witch hunt or for other selfish reasons”, the special adviser warned.
Earlier in his address, the Rivers State Coordinator of PDP Total Grassroot Movement, Dr. Jerry Mene, informed the special adviser that they were in his office to associate themselves with the ongoing exercise of registration of new members into the party, expressing joy that the exercise will no doubt accommodate those who have been yearning to become members of the largest and fastest growing political movement in Africa.
His words: “Most of our new members have been clamouring for formalizing their membership of the party for a while now. It is therefore gratifying that the party took the decision to start the exercise of registering new members.
“However, we want to use this opportunity to bring to your attention the complaints of some PDP enthusiasts, who appear to have been denied the membership card. The reasons they have adduced in some of the local government areas is either the card is insufficient or some officials are hoarding the ones available.
“It is our plea therefore that as governor’s adviser on political matters and strategy you use your good offices to bring this to the attention of the party leadership in the state so that all those who have shown interest in becoming members of this great party are not denied”, he said.
