The apparent negligence of duty on the part of staff of the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control, NAFDAC, in Nigeria have become a big encouragement to producers of fake and adulterated food and drinks, whose activities now poses a serious threat to the health of the citizens. In an attempt to check the activities of producers of fake products, the Rivers State Police Command recently arrested a syndicate that engages in the manufacture of fake drinks believed to be dangerous to public health.
A statement issued by Nnamdi Omoni, Superintendent of Police and Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Command , on Monday, explained how on October 22, operatives of Puff Adder, acting on credible information, stormed their hideout at Eligbolo Road in the Rumuokoro axis of the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area and arrested two suspects while others managed to escape.
According to the statement, exhibits recovered at the scene included assorted wines, spirits and several alcoholic beverages; including empty bottles waiting to be filled with the poisonous liquid/substances.
Meanwhile, those arrested have reportedly made useful confessions to the police, and will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
