Protest On East West Road Spreading To Mbiama, As IPMAN Boss Urges Federal Government To Respond To Demands

(By Jonah Okpabi) –

The Executive Chairman of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Rivers State Chapter, Dr Joseph Obele has lent his voice amongst prominent Nigerians asking the Federal Government to meet up with the demands of protesters along Eleme axis of the East/West Road. Recall that in the early hours of Monday July 26, 2021, angry Eleme youths numbering about three thousand barricaded the entire stretch of the Eleme axis of the East/West Road demanding that the road should be fixed with immediate effect.

The youths have been resilient in their demand as the protest entered its fourth day on Thursday, and the protest appears to be gathering momentum in each passing day. However, various groups in the Niger Delta have joined forces with the protesters threatening to barricade the road down to Mbiama. The oil tycoon who also double as a lecturer at Kenule Saro Wiwa Polytechnic, Bori and founder of Youth Business School, has  decried the negative consequences of continuous closure of the road which leads to the economic hub of the nation, thereby leading to failure in supply and distribution of petroleum products to and from the Port Harcourt Refinery.

Dr Obele lamented how the deplorable state of the road has affected the smooth operations of those in the Oil and Gas sector over the years and appealed to the Federal Government to response to the demand of the Protesters  by fixing the road.
