Re- arrested UNIPORT Student Ritualist Remanded In Prison

(By Iheanyi Ezinwo) The second year student of University of Port Harcourt, Ifeanyi Chukwu Maxwell Dike, who escaped from the police in Rivers State after his arrest over murder charges but subsequently re- arrested in Jos, Plateau state last week, was Tuesday in Port Harcourt remanded in prison custody after Magistrate Amadi – Nna declined jurisdiction to hear the case of murder preferred against him.
The case file was accordingly referred to the office of Rivers State Director of Public Prosecution for advice while the matter was adjourned indefinitely.
Meanwhile, residents of Port Harcourt who spoke to Notable Outcome are demanding that justice should not only be done, but that it should be seen to be done, with all those who have hands in the killing comprehensively brought to justice.
It would be recalled that, men of anti-robbery squad in Plateau state had arrested the second year undergraduate student of University of Port Harcourt who was wanted by the police in Rivers State for the killing and dismembering of nine year old Victoria Chikamzo Mesu for alleged ritual purposes.
The suspect was re-arrested about two weeks after the Rivers State Commissioner of Police Mr. Zaki Ahmed, had offered a reward of one million naira to who ever will provide useful information that would lead to the arrest of the fleeing suspect.
The initial arrest of Ifeanyi Dike in Port Harcourt was sequel to reports of the killing of Victoria Chikamzo Mesu for alleged ritual purposes on 19th August, 2017. The suspect, Ifeanyi Dike was arrested and paraded on Saturday 19th August, 2017, only to escape from Sergeant Johnbosco Okoroeze, the Investigating Police Officer in the course of statement taking at the station.
Mr. Zaki Ahmed later told newsmen in Port Harcourt that Sergeant Johnbosco Okoroeze was found guilty of carrying out premeditated action and aided the escape of the suspect, even before he was taken into custody.
“He was accordingly dismissed from the force and charged to Court for accessory after the fact to murder, perverting the course of Justice and permitting the escape of a murder suspect and has been remanded in prison custody”, Ahmed declared, even as another suspect have been arrested in connection with the killing, with the lead provided in Ifeanyi’s statement at the police station.
