(By Iheanyi Ezinwo)-Nigeria’s democratic landscape is populated by the good, bad and the ugly, the reason for the cacophony of voices in all sectors of our political administration. However, Hon. Chinda is among the few, who have proved to be fit and proper representatives of their constituents. He is patriotic, detribalised and reliable, the reason why glorious things are being spoken about him everywhere.
In his second term as a member of the Federal House of Representatives representing Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency, the former Commissioner for Environment in Rivers State has proved to be a worthy representative of his immediate constituents, the entire state and Nigeria. He has not only been active in the sponsorship of bills and motions, his voice is heard on important issues of national importance, just the same way he promptly brings to the attention of government issues that border on the well being of his constituents, and sometimes other communities outside his constituency.
Trained as a lawyer, OK Chinda has, for many years thoughtfully provided accommodation for any one from his constituency visiting Abuja to stay, free of charge for three days. The idea was to reduce the over head cost of any of them coming to Abuja for one business or the other.
Another factor that works for the federal lawmaker is that, he is not one of those Abuja – based politicians who are not in touch with their constituents; he lives among his people at Elelenwo. OK Chinda identifies with them in all things, and extends his stewardship to the entire Ikwerre ethnic nationality and other parts of Rivers State. It was therefore against this background and in appreciation of his distinguished public service record that Ikwerre Media Practitioners’ Association of Nigeria, IMPAN, on January 1, 2019 honoured him with the award of: Pride of Ikwerre and Federal Lawmaker of the Year 2018.
The honour, which has been widely hailed as well deserved, is a clear evidence that the law maker has justified the use of the mandate freely given to him, and will not disappoint if given another opportunity in 2019, to consolidate on the gains recorded so far. According to observers, the performance of OK Chinda has thrown him up as an exemplary Nigerian politician and wished that others could learn from his faithfulness in stewardship.
Speaking at the award presentation ceremony, the national president of Ikwerre Media Practitioners’ Association of Nigeria, Chief Monday Wehere, had lauded the lawmaker for his support to the group in the past and brifed him on renewed efforts to conclude the Ikwerre Community Directory Project.
Responding, the excited Rep. Chinda thanked IMPAN for the honour and pledged his continuous support to ensure the full realisation of the Ikwerre Community Directory project. The presentation was witnessed by the executive council and other members of IMPAN.
