(By Iheanyi Ezinwo) -Two reports on petitions against Total E&P were presented at the Rivers State House of Assembly, Thursday, by the chairman, House Committee on Public Petitions, Hon. Evans Bipi representing Ogu/ Bolo State Constituency.
Hon. Bipi, who told his colleagues of his committees findings and recommendations on the oil spill affecting eight communities in Ahoada, who are accusing the company of not doing enough to protect the people and the environment.
Among the recommendations of the committee was that Total E&P needs to pay more attention to pipeline surveillance while NESRA and other relevant stakeholders needs to find out the cause of the spill, and save the environment from spills.
The second report had to do with the unlawful termination of appointment of Princewill Elekima, in which Hon. Bipi reported that his committee was able to meet with the two parties, and obtained testimonies that were backed with documents.
Debate on the reports was deferred to the next adjourned date by Hon. Stanley Uwom, deputy speaker, who stood in for the speaker.
