(By Chris K. Amadi) – The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State is in tatters following claims of expulsion and counter expulsions by leaders of the two main factions of the party in the state.
Rivers people were taken aback over the weekend when the news of things falling apart, for the umpteenth time rent the airwaves. While the Igo Aguma faction is claiming legitimacy and expelling Barr. Isaac Ogbogbula, factional caretaker chairman from the party over allegations of gross misconduct, the Ogbogbula group also announced the expulsion of Igo Aguma and others from the party over allegations of anti-party activities.
From all indications, it does appear that the contending forces in APC in Rivers have not learnt their lessons, and are determined to, again, frustrate all those who are hoping to use the party as a platform to realise their political aspirations in 2023.
It would be recalled that the problem of APC in Rivers State came to the open when aggrieved members went to court to challenge their exclusion in the party primaries prior to the 2019 general elections.
The court, satisfied that they had a valid case, nullified the congresses and primary elections conducted prior to the elections, and this culminated in the exclusion of the party from the polls.
With the emergent expulsions and counter expulsions by the factions in their various wards, endorsed by their local government executive committees, APC in Rivers State seems to be on another path of self destruction, as the factions seem determined to fight to finish.
