( By Iheanyi Ezinwo) – The Rivers State House of Assembly has approved the Medium Term Expenditure Framework 2021-2023 that was forwarded to it by Governor Nyesom Wike.
In his reaction before the expenditure framework was approved on Tuesday, December 2, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ikuinyi Ibani-Owaji explained that the plan has taken into consideration the dynamics of the economic environment and the related risks, even as he added that the plan gave priority to the diversification of the economy and capital projects, among others.
In his remarks before presenting the document for consideration, leader of the House, Hon. Martin Amaewhule, had explained that the governor’s request for the Assembly to approve the Medium Term Expenditure Framework was in line with the Rivers State Fiscal Responsibility Law number 8 of 2010, as well as the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.
Earlier, the lawmakers had been informed of the intention of Governor Wike to present the 2022 budget proposal on Wednesday at 12 noon. This was the rationale for the second communication from the governor, which was read by the speaker at the plenary.
