(By Iheanyi Ezinwo) The Rivers State House of Assembly Thursday screened and cleared five commissioner nominees sent to it by Governor Ezenwo Nyesom Wike.
The five nominees cleared were Hon. Dunnamene Robinson Dekor, Tonye Oninyide, Shadrack Chukwu, Prof. Roseline Konya and Dr. Fred Kpakol.
The screening and clearing of the five commissioner nominees is coming some days after the swearing in of first batch of 14 commissioners by the governor.
The Rivers Assembly also gave its blessing to Governor Wike’s intention to appoint 15 special advisers, just as they screened and confirmed the nomination of chairmen and members of caretaker committees for seven local government councils, following the expiration of the tenure of the immediate past occupants. The affected councils included Andoni, Asari-Toru, Emohua, Ikwerre , Obio/Akpor and Opobo/Nkoro.
Speaking after the confirmation of the commissioner nominees, the Rivers Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ikuniyi Owaji – Ibani reminded them that it is a privilege to be called to serve, advising that they justify the confidence reposed in them by the appointing authority and the good people of Rivers State.
Of the five cleared commissioner nominees, only Hon.Dunnamene Dekor, former Deputy Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, and former member of Federal House of Representatives is new, the other four are returning.
