(By Iheanyi Ezinwo)-Mrs. Inime Ifeyinwa Aguma, wife of late Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of Rivers State was on Wednesday screened and confirmed by the Rivers State House of Assembly to serve as Commissioner and member of the Rivers State Executive Council

Her screening and conformation was sequel to a request from Governor Ezenwo Wike , apparently to fill the vacuum created by the sudden passing of her husband in a London hospital and his burial last Saturday. In his reaction after the screening, the speaker, Rt.Hon. Ikuinyi Owaji-Ibani who described the exercise as a call to duty, divided the house, with the 17 lawmakers in attendance voting in favour of her confirmation.

Recall that. Mrs Inime Aguma, current National President of FIDA Nigeria, the umbrella body of Female Lawyers in the country, had served as commissioner for three months in Rivers State during the brief administration of Sir Celestine Omehia in 2007. She has 28 years experience in legal practice, having been called to the Nigerian Bar as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 1990.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State College of Health Science and Management Technology Bill 2018 was presented by Hon. Sam Ogeh on behalf of Hon. M.O.Chinda at th sitting, and it was promptly given first reading. Two petitions were also presented at the plenary by Hons. Innocent Barikor representing Gokana state constituency and Friday Nke-eh, representing Khana.

In a related development, retirees in the state, who were yet to be given their entitlements after four years in some cases, blocked the entrances to the state Assembly on Wednesday. They were demanding the repeal of the PENCOM Law, whose poor implementation is said to be partly responsible for their plight, and the payment of their pensions and gratuities, after serving the state for 35 years.

The unyielding protesters were later addressed by the speaker, Rt. Hon. Ikuinyi Owaji-Ibanii, who assured them that steps will be taken to promptly resolve the impasse.
