Speaking with the Assembly Press Corps on Tuesday, the majority leader refuted claims by his colleague, Hon. Martins Manna, lawmaker representing Ahoada-East at the Assembly that the speaker, Rt. Hion. Ikuinyi Owaji–Ibani was incompetent and should resign for not providing opportunities for lawmakers, especially the disadvantaged new ones to be trained to enhance their capacity to make laws and represent their constituencies effectively.
Hon. Amaewhule further explained that the Assembly was united behind the speaker and that they had a training programme in Akwa Ibom state recently, and that other opportunities for capacity building, which he said is a continuous exercise will come up in due course.
In a related development, the Rivers State House of Assembly has condemned the Friday attack on the judiciary in the state by elements of the All Progressives Congress, describing it as very unfortunate and unacceptable.
The lawmakers, who visited the Court complex to see the extent of damage to documents and structures also resolved to write to President Muhammdu Buhari, the European Union and other foreign missions in Nigeria to complain over the complicity of security operatives in the vandalisation of the judiciary in the state.
