(By Iheanyi Ezinwo)-The Rivers State House of Assembly has referred the 2019 Appropriation Bill recently presented by Governor Nyesom Wike to the House Committee on Appropriation after a robust debate on the demerits and merits of the budget on Wednesday.
While some members, including the Majority leader, Hon. Martins Amaewhule commended the governor for implementing the 2018 Appropriation Law creditably, others pointed out some gaps, and called for a deliberate effort to adequately address them in the 2019 budget year.
In his contribution, Hon. Friday Nke-eh, representing Khana State Constituency, pleaded that attention be given to the provision of portable water to his constituency in order to check the vulnerability of the people to water borne diseases.
In his remarks, Rt.Hon. Ikuinyi Owaji-Ibani, who is representing Andoni State Constituency, thanked his colleagues for the robust debate, even as he expressed the commitment of the Assembly to ensure a speedy passage of the bill to support the aggressive development initiatives of Governor Wike in the state.
He also charged other committees of the House to work with the Appropriation Committee to facilitate completion of the work and early passage of the bill.
