The Rivers State House of Assembly has passed the Integrity and Accountability Commission Bill 2021 into law. It also passed the Rivers State Housing Scheme for Judicial Officers Bill into law after debate on the merits and demerits of the bill on Tuesday by the lawmakers at the Assembly complex, along Moscow road in Port Harcourt..
In his contribution, leader of the house, Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule stressed that purpose of the Integrity and Accountability Commissions Bill was to ensure integrity and accountability in public service institutions. He stressed that the initiative will ensure probity in public offices and reduce financial crime in the state to the barest minimum.
Other lawmakers who contributed in the debate described the bill as timely even as they added that it will promote adherence to ethical standards in public institutions.
Also speaking at the sitting, the Speaker Rt. Hon. Ikwuiyi Owaji Ibani, agreed with his colleagues that the content of the bill was excellent and will encourage prudent use of resources in public service institutions.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Housing Scheme for Judicial Officers was an initiative of executive arm of government to provide the legal framework for the provision of houses for judges of Rivers origin, a move which is expected to encourage them to dispense justice without fear or favour.
