(By Iheanyi Ezinwo) – A bill for a law to allow the Rivers State Government to collect with holding tax in the state has passed the third reading at the state House of Assembly, paving the way for its signing into law by the Governor, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike.’
The bill, which enjoyed the support of honourable members on Tuesday during plenary at the Moscow road complex of the Rivers State House of Assembly, according to the leader, Hon. Martin Amaewhule, will boost revenue generation and provision of infrastructure in the state. The initiative, according to him would also generally enhance the capacity of government to fulfill its social contract to the good people of Rivers State.
In his own response after all members present voted in support of the Withholding Tax Bill 2021 and other matters connected therewith, the speaker, Rt. Hon. Ikuinyi Owaji-Ibani, said the passed Withholding Tax Bill 2021, when signed into law by Governor Ezenwo Wike, will enhance the capacity of government to provide more infrastructure, employment opportunities and generally improve the welfare of Rivers people.
Meanwhile, the next sitting of the house has been scheduled for the 16th day of September. 2021.
